How to make Air Fryer Mini Wontons in minutes! FASTER, CHEAPER and so much TASTIER than ordering takeout!!
Why Air Fryer Mini Wontons should be on your Go To List
- Make perfectly crunchy mini wontons every time! Just coat them with a tiny bit of oil before cooking. This creates that crispy, golden "deep-fried" crust. The easiest way to do this is to use an oil sprayer or brush with oil. If you skip this step the crust will have a dry texture with a floury taste.
- Freezer to table in minutes! When it comes to quickly cooking frozen mini wontons, the air fryer is your best friend. No need to worry about what to do with cups of leftover oil!
- Minimal cleanup. Just rinse the air-fryer tray when you are done.
- Cheaper than takeout. Make your own wontons - see our Chicken and Shrimp Fried Wonton Recipe or buy them at the grocery store.
- A healthier option. Air fried wontons use less oil and have less fat that those made in a deep fryer.
This Mini Wonton Air Fryer recipe is one of my favorite air fryer recipes because it's so addictive! They are super crispy with a moist and juicy, done in minutes with minimal cleanup!
Ingredients - Air Fryer Mini Wonton
- Frozen wontons can be found in the frozen food section of large supermarkets or specialty grocery stores. Any type works with this recipe. If you are up to making them fresh - try our Chicken and Shrimp Fried Wonton recipe. The recipe is quite versatile - you can easily make a variation of this wonton recipe by using other ingredients like cream cheese, shrimp and ground pork as a filling.
- A little bit of oil is used to coat the wontons to get that crispy golden-brown skin that is a hallmark of crunchy Asian style wontons. You can use olive oil, canola oil spray, avocado oil spray or any other type of vegetable oil.
- Sriracha, soy sauce and sriracha mayo are some of my favorite dipping sauces for wontons. You can also sprinkle a little sesame oil, sliced green onion, red pepper flakes and sesame seeds as a garnish.
How to cook Mini Wonton - Air Fryer
Step One: Line the air fryer basket with perforated parchment paper for easy clean-up (optional).
Step Two: Brush or spray the wontons with a thin layer of oil. The oil is critical to ensuring that the wontons crisp up and do not have a dry and hard texture.
Step Three: Place wontons in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches, if needed.
Step Four: Air fry the wontons at 380°F for about 8-10 minutes. About half-way, flip the wontons with a tong to ensure even cooking. Adjust the cooking time as needed so that the wontons are cooked to your preference.
Step Five: Use a tong or spatula to remove the crispy wontons from the air fryer. Serve hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips for making deliciously crispy, juicy wontons
- Always cook frozen. There is no need to thaw the wontons prior to cooking. Thawed wontons tend to stick to fingers and any surface that they are on - especially glass.
- Place the wontons in a single layer in the air-fryer. Do not overlap as they tend to stick to each. Fused wonton skin tends to tear when pulled apart.
- Lightly coat the frozen wontons in oil. The oil helps the outer shell to turn crisp up and turn golden brown. Brush the entire wonton wrapper to make sure that the edges of the wrapper do not burn. To coat the wontons in oil, use a cooking spray or pastry oil dipped in vegetable oil.
- Line the air fryer with a perforated piece of parchment paper. This helps with easy clean-up.
- Check and flip the wontons halfway through the cooking process. This allows you to adjust the cooking time as needed. Wontons will cook differently depending on the brand of air fryer and the type and size of the wonton.
About the dipping sauce
A tasty dipping sauce can make a world of difference to your wonton eating experience. The most common dipping sauce is plain soy sauce (any variety). Other popular sauces include hoisin sauce, sweet chili sauce, soy ginger sauce, chili-garlic sauce (like Sriracha), Nuoc Cham and sweet and sour sauce. You can also make a fancy Chinese dipping sauce by combining brown sugar, ginger, scallions, rice vinegar and water with the soy sauce.

Dumplings, gyoza, wontons and pot stickers are basically the same in that a savory meat or vegan filling is stuffed into a small pouch made of thinly rolled pastry. The difference is mainly in their shape and how they are cooked. Gyoza is typically steamed. Chinese dumplings and wontons are typically steamed or fried while pot stickers are pan-fried until golden brown.
Perforated parchment paper is basically a piece of parchment that has been cut to the size of the bottom of the air fryer with small holes cut in. It is used as a liner for the air fryer for easy clean-up.
