With ribbons of whipped cream, cookie crumble and chocolate sauce this easy Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Recipe is perfect for a hot day!

Starbucks Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Recipe
Perfect for a steamy summer afternoon, this Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino is one of the most popular drinks offered by Starbucks. This Frappuccino tastes like a coffee and chocolate flavored milkshake with pops of dark chocolate cookie crumbles, decadent chocolate sauce and oodles of sweet, whipped cream.
While Starbucks uses their own signature mocha sauce and java chips, this copycat recipe substitutes these with simple ingredients which are easily available ingredients. Despite the substitutions, this copycat homemade Frappuccino still tastes like the real thing! The Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino is a high calorie dessert drink so directions are provided in case you want to substitute some of the ingredients with lower calorie or plant-friendly options.
Why you'll love this Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino recipe
- Its absolutely delicious! This heavenly sweet treat is made for coffee and chocolate lovers who have a sweet tooth.
- The basic ingredients are customizable. By making it at home, you can easily customize this drink by adding an extra burst of goodness - like a little more cookie crumble or chocolate sauce. You also have the option of making a lighter version or healthier version by substituting some of the ingredients.
- Quick and easy. No special skills or equipment is required! Just a blender and a tall glass. You can also make some of the individual components ahead of time and quickly assemble the drink when ready.
- Available anytime and won't break the bank. Not only can you enjoy this heavenly drink anytime you want, but you can have it over several days with the price of one trip to your local Starbucks or local coffee shop.
Ingredients & Substitutions

- Strong brewed coffee or espresso. While any type of coffee works - my favorite coffee type is bold dark roast because you need the strong coffee flavors to stand up to the other flavors in the drink. You can also substitute with regular coffee or decaffeinated coffee..
- Oreo cookies. The dark cookie part of the regular Oreos is all that is needed to get that delicious cookie flavor. You can use any other type of similar dark chocolate cookie or chocolate sandwich cookie - just remove any cream filling.
- Whole milk. I use whole milk because it makes the Frappuccino taste just right. For an even creamier Frappuccino, you can use half and half, heavy cream or even ice cream. To reduce calories you can use 2% milk or substitute with vegan friendly plant-based options like soy milk, oat milk, coconut milk and almond milk.
- Chocolate syrup or mocha sauce. Any brand of chocolate syrup or mocha sauce works. To make a mocha syrup similar to the one used in for Starbucks' Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino, simmer equal amounts of strong coffee, cocoa powder and sugar with a pinch of salt and dash of vanilla until it thickens to a chocolate sauce-like consistency.
- Chocolate chips. I use Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips when making this Frappuccino. You can use your favorite type or brand of chocolate chips. The original Starbucks Frappuccino recipe uses java chips which taste very much like chocolate chips when blended. Starbucks uses Java chips because they are easier to blend with coffee due to their higher cocoa content. Java chips are available in specialty stores and can also be purchased online.
- Ice cubes. The ice cubes give the Frappuccino its signature milk shake like texture. For very strong coffee flavors, you can also use frozen coffee ice cubes. The amount of ice used in this recipe can be varied depending on your preference.
- Sweetened whipped cream. Save time by using canned heavy whipped cream (aerosol). I use Land O'Lakes' canned sugar free whipped cream to reduce the amount of calories in this drink.
How to make Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino
Make the cookie crumble

- Remove the white cream filling from the Oreo cookies. Place the Oreo cookies into a blender and blitz it 2-3 times. The cookies should be made up of some fine and some small cookie crumbs. Set aside. I typically discard the cream filling- but you could technically use it for some other purpose e.g., as an ingredient for Oreo ice cream or as a sweet dip for fruit (thin out with 1-2 teaspoons of water or milk).
Make the Frappuccino base

- Make 2 ounces of very strong coffee or espresso. If you do not have an espresso machine or a Moka pot, use instant coffee. To make espresso with instant coffee just follow the directions on the instant coffee label for 2 ounces (or shots) of espresso.
- Pour the milk and espresso into the blender. Add all but 1 teaspoon of the Oreo cookie crumbles. Set aside the 1 teaspoon of cookie crumbles for garnish. Add a third of the chocolate syrup and the ice. Blend.
Assemble the Frappuccino

- Add an inch of whipped cream and drizzle a little of the mocha sauce on the bottom of the serving glass. For an authentic Starbuck's "look", apply a little of the mocha drizzle to the sides of the glass.
- Pour the blended Frappuccino mixture into the glass.
- Swirl the whipped cream on top. Drizzle with chocolate sauce. Sprinkle the remaining cookie crumbles on top. Serve immediately.

Expert Tips
- Do not over blend. Blend the Frappuccino mixture just enough so that it has a smooth, creamy texture. If you over blend, the ice will melt, and the texture will be more watery than the regular mocha Frappuccino.
- For a stronger taste make coffee ice cubes. Freeze some coffee ahead of time in ice cube trays and use the frozen coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice cubes to get a stronger coffee flavor.
Storage
Chocolate Cookie Crumble Frappuccino is best served freshly blended. Blended iced coffee recipes don't store well because the signature milkshake texture is lost within an hour, as the ice melts. Instead of making extra and storing leftovers in the refrigerator, it is better to make the individual components ahead of time and simply assemble the drink when ready to serve.
Variations
Take this drink to the next level by adding other Frappuccino syrups. Starbucks uses a whole slew of syrups to further customize their custom drinks. The most popular one used in this drink is vanilla syrup. I also love adding hazelnut syrup to my own Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino.
I once added vanilla ice cream on top of the Frappuccino instead of whipped cream. It was amazing!
Nutrition
A single serving of this Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino with whole milk has about 483 calories, 23.7g of fat and 63.2g of carbohydrates. Note that the caloric content will increase dramatically if you decide to use more of any of the ingredients with the exception of the espresso.
